What
is the
ADHD Coalition
of Victoria?
The
ADHD Coalition of Victoria is an an
independent, non-funded, voluntary association
of people who all have a particular interest in Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder [ADHD]. It includes
clinicians from psychiatry, psychology, paediatrics, and general practice.
There are also nurses, teachers, researchers and some past and present
co-ordinators of Victorian support groups for ADHD. It has metropolitan
and regional members. The
Association has been meeting since June 2006, and was incorporated
in Victoria in 2007 .
Our Aims
The ADHD Coalition of Victoria Inc. aims to:
Promote better community understanding and acceptance of ADHD and
associated disorders.
Educate the community, including the health and education sectors,
regarding evidence-based management of ADHD and associated conditions.
Promote early intervention in cases of ADHD using an appropriate
multi-modal approach.
Work constructively with governments, media and other organisations
working in related fields to ADHD.
What
is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?
Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder [ADHD] is one of the most common developmental
disorders in children. Children with ADHD have impaired functioning
in multiple settings, including home, school and in relationships
with peers. If untreated, the disorder can have long-term adverse
effects in adulthood.
